Please Note: We use natural slate for our designs because we love the tactile texture, imperfections and unique pattern on each piece of slate. You might spot mottling, fine grey thread lines, and may contain pyrite/fools gold, colour blemishes and fissures and cracks and chips or corners that are not perfect, on hearts the point may not be a perfect point. but we hope you’ll agree that they add a touch of character to our slate designs. Slate is a natural product so colour may vary slightly as may the size and natural marking - this is normal.

Any of these above imperfections may appear on any part of the slate, we will however do our best to ensure natural imperfections have minimal impact on the final product. We will have to employ some level of common sense, for example a small bit of pyrite within a large letter/number that does not affect the readability would be considered normal — however a large section of pyrite within small letters/numbers that make the text unreadable will be considered a defect.

Loose edge fragments on rustic/rough cut edge slate — rustic edge slates are intentionally chipped away on the edges to create a rough edge, as such there may be some sharpness to the edges, also this process may leave loose fragments of slate that can detach in transit or with handling - this is quite normal - these fragment can be quite large and some common sense is needed, if the detached slate has no effect on the engraving and has minimal impact on the overall look of the slate then this is normal, if however the detached slate has removed some of the engraving this would be considered a defect.

During ordering, it is possible to choose natural or gloss finish, gloss finish helps add a little protection from moisture, but also darkens the slate which makes the engraving stand out a little more - depending on how absorbent the slate is, the gloss coat may still appear satin, but the main function is the increased contrast, this satin finish is not a fault

Cleaning/Warning: Slate is a natural products, like leather it absorbs liquids and oils and this can change the appearance/darken the slate.. we recommend you dont use furniture polish on slate as this will darken the slate. If you use furniture polish or spill oils etc on the slate you can remove it with isopropyl alcohol or methylated spirits This is a natural effect with slate which no one can control.
