Things to Know Before Buying a LED Dimmable Bulb

Check Your Existing Dimmer

The dimmer type and its minimum/maximum load range determine LED compatibility.

There are two main types of dimmers: “Trailing Edge” and “Leading Edge”

Trailing edge dimmers work best with LED light bulbs. Most leading-edge dimmers used for halogen bulbs are incompatible with LED dimmable bulbs.
Do The Maths

To determine how many LED bulbs your dimmer can handle, divide its minimum and maximum load by 10.

For example, if the dimmer is rated for 100W-300W:

Min Load: 100W ÷ 10 = 10W Max Load: 300W ÷ 10 = 30W

So, the total LED load should be between 10W and 30W. Add up the wattages of the LED bulbs to check how many can be used. Note: The total LED load must exceed the dimmer’s minimum. Using an incorrect load can cause flickering or damage to the bulbs.
